Estoril Praia is confirmed for the next edition of Bwin League! Ricardo Soares’ side needed a positive result to mathematically guarantee maintenance and they managed to achieve that goal, on a night where the winds turned from a topic of conversation into a major influencing factor in the game.

Arauca was also looking to score, which he needed to confirm his European qualification, but ended up being defeated in visiting Antonio Coimbra da Mota. This goal is, for now, deferred.

Despite the supposed difference between the two teams in terms of quality, supported by their respective positions in the league table, Estoril Praia tried to argue that the struggle for survival is nobler than the European one. It was, if anything, more urgent.

The first step without the number 11 would be the best of the first half, with Mujica hitting the post after a devilish transmission by Sela, but Estoril returned to the charge and ended the first half with a controversial move: Thiago Govea scored, but the match was already interrupted by an alleged foul by Marquez on Busquets. Thanks to the kick-off whistle, there was no VAR intervention.

Estoril’s best took a while to emerge again, with the visitors’ first sign (a fine shot from Arsénio), and only after 60 minutes did Amoreira start to smell like a party. Guitane warned, shortly before João Carvalho used that wind to his advantage to be a character in the game…

First, the No. 20 attempted – assuming it was intentional – the direct corner, but saw his Olympic goal hit the crossbar. And just five minutes later, he drove his teammates, coaching staff and supporters crazy with a wind-assisted kick into the top right corner of the goal. A great goal with the Canadian Survival Seal.

The party took a while, because after the target was none other than Arauca. Ricardo Soares’ side knew how to suffer and ended up getting a reward, in the form of a dangerous counter-attack, complemented by the new elements of the attack: Cassiano led, Rodrigo Martins served and even emerged again to finish 2-0. It drove Amorera crazy.
