A tender has been opened for other companies to take TAP ports in Lisbon

TAP Air Portugal has 500% more passengers between Europe and Brazil than last year

TAP Air Portugal (TAP) recorded a 526% increase in the number of customers carried between Europe and Brazil in the first six months of 2022, compared to the previous year. The Portuguese airline has more than 640,000 customers and has taken nearly a third (28%) of the entire market share of all customers flying between Europe and Brazil.

During the first half of 2022, Turkish Airlines operated 3,129 flights and was the third largest international airline in terms of departures, representing a massive 130% increase over the same period in 2021.

This summer, TAP will operate 76 weekly flights between Portugal and Brazil, the largest number of flights by a foreign airline to the country.

Ricardo Dennis, TAP Country Director UK and Ireland said: “Portugal’s popularity as a gateway to Brazil continues to increase and its capacity levels of 86% compared to pre-pandemic flights are an indication that the Portuguese airline is increasing its market share. We are attracting more and more customers to our Brazilian destinations, many of whom are the only European carrier providing connections via Atlantic Ocean “.

TAP connects Europe to 11 cities in Brazil from its hub in Lisbon, and flies to Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belem, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Fortaleza, Natal, Maceio, Porto Alegre, Recife and Salvador. The airline also connects Porto with Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
