– I was totally shocked, says his wife Kristen, according to her Boston Globe, continues:

struggling with pain
Hayes had continued to take painkillers during a long hockey career and had recently been treated for the problem, but the family thought it was past separation. The use of fentanyl indicates otherwise.

I don’t want him to be labeled an “addict”. Do you understand what I mean? Because it wasn’t. Father Kevin Hayes says Jimmy helped everyone.
– I hope he can save some lives by telling us what happened to him. It’s great that this saved someone from such pain. He continues: He was a great American boy who made a terrible mistake that cost him his life.
The father describes himself as a longtime vigil addict. He says that his son has become increasingly addicted to painkillers recently, and that he warned him about them.
