A few days after the author’s son was arrested for the death of his 10-month-old daughter, Ruby, after an alleged fentanyl overdose, Daniel Oster was found dead. According to the New York Post, some data from police reports shows Auster, 44, “was found with a drug build-up and a dose similar to what he used to take, which means his death may have been accidental.”
Paul Auster’s son was arrested a few days ago on bail for manslaughter over the death of his daughter, Ruby. The event put Daniel Oster in international headlines on November 1, after he called the police saying he couldn’t revive the baby. Days later, the daughter’s autopsy was published, confirming death by overdose, although the circumstances in which she might have swallowed the body were not made public.
Daniel Auster lived a life marked by abuse and problems of justice. In 1996, he witnessed the murder of Andrei “Angel” Melendez, a New York drug dealer. Although he was not involved in the crime, he pleaded guilty to possession of three thousand dollars (about 2,855 euros) that had been stolen from Melendez and was sentenced to probation.
