Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways has just resumed crew training on its Airbus A380 aircraft, giving positive signs for the jumbo giant’s return to the skies. Like many airlines around the world, Etihad halted operations with the model after the pandemic began in 2020, when passenger numbers plummeted and the Emirates closed its borders.

In April last year, the airline announced the indefinite suspension of its entire A380 fleet in order to prioritize operations with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A350-1000, two models deemed more sustainable and financially efficient.

As a result, 10 A380s were sent for long-term storage at special facilities in France and Spain, where they were to be permanently grounded, as the then CEO, Tony Douglas, said.
