The first test of the 2024 Skoda Superb Break. Is it the best van on the market?

The new generation Skoda Superb Break was shown internationally in Portugal. We actually drove it and it was impressive.

At the top of the Skoda range we find amazing Which has just received a new generation (fourth) and the Czech manufacturer did not miss the opportunity.

For the new generation, Skoda has had access to the latest platforms (MQB evo), engines and technologies from the Volkswagen Group, which has helped strengthen the Superb's position in the group and within the group as well.

After all, I remember that development of the new Superb was carried out alongside the new Passat, both of which shared a production line in Bratislava, Slovakia.

At the international car show, in Portugal, I had the opportunity to drive the new Superb Break and left that first contact very impressed. Find out why in the video below:

Space, space and more space

Externally, the new Skoda Superb Brake is larger than before (4.9 meters long) and includes more design than usual. As it grows on the outside, it is reflected on the inside.

Lack of space has never been a criticism we can point to in this generation, much less. The space in the second row is… spacious. Even if you are more than 1.8 meters tall, you will not have trouble finding space, either for your head or your legs.

Moreover, the rear passengers are completely “pampered”. The unit at my disposal had heated seats and we could also control the air conditioning independently from the front row.

The “acre” of space is what we also find in the trunk: 690 liters (+30 liters than before) which can increase to 1920 liters with the seats folded down. You can take it all.

You still have buttons

Other than that, the interior is what we'd expect from a Superb, Skoda's top-tier car in its class. Strict assembly, above average materials and all the expected technology.

The instrument panel is digital (10 inches) and the infotainment panel (13 inches) plays a special role in the center of the dashboard. However, Skoda has not focused all the features on the central screen. Below we can find three generous rotary controls for the climate control, a winning solution.

There is also a new induction charging dock for the cell phone (15W) that does not even do without ventilation. Something I've only seen in the latest Porsche Cayenne.

There's also no shortage of Skoda's Simply Clever solutions. In addition to the umbrella integrated into the driver's door, or the ice scraper, there are other solutions, some new, that the Czech brand has integrated into the Superb Break. I invite you to watch the video above where I introduce some of them.

Access the latest hardware The Volkswagen Group is also reflected when we are behind the wheel of the 2024 Skoda Superb Brake.

I can even say that the top of the Czech group is not afraid of comparisons with performances beloved In its class, such as ride quality and comfort on board. The Skoda Superb plays the role of CEO very well, without forgetting its responsibilities as a senior member of the family.

Behind the wheel, I particularly liked the very comfortable seats, and the sound insulation, which was greatly helped by the presence of double glazing.

To be honest, for anyone looking for an exciting car to drive, they would be better off looking elsewhere, but still, the Skoda Superb Brake has always proven to be correct and predictable. The highway is her favorite environment.

Gasoline, diesel and hybrid Delivery in

The new Skoda Superb will arrive on the national market soon with three engines: petrol, diesel and hybrid Delivery in. The former will use a 1.5 TSI mHEV with 150 hp, while the diesel engine is the popular 2.0 TDI with 150 hp.

The Superb Break iV, the hybrid Delivery in, uses the latest development of the system, which now combines a 1.5 TSI engine and an electric motor with a combined power of 204 hp. Thanks to the (useful) 19.7 kWh battery, it promises a range of 100 kilometers of autonomy.

If these engines look familiar, that's because they're exactly the same ones we've already seen and tested in the new Volkswagen Passat and Tiguan, with which the Superb has almost everything in common.

What I can say is that, considering the size and intended use of the Superb Break as a family member, 150 horsepower seemed to fall somewhat short. This first contact was too short to draw definitive conclusions, but we will test again, with greater availability, all engines of this model.

When does it arrive and how much does it cost?

There's not much time left until the Skoda Superb and Superb Brake hit the market, and in terms of pricing, we only have an indication that they will start at €49,000. Competitive value for a senior family member, who also plays the role of CEO very well.

At the end of this first contact, it is important to remember that the Skoda Superb Brake is one of the best offers not only in its class but also on the market. It is, I think, the best van in the Volkswagen range.
