Meghan Markle rejoices after her half-sister’s lawsuit against her was dismissed.
Half-sister Samantha Markle has sued Meghan Markle for defamation after a controversial television interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
The sister claims her reputation was ruined by the “malicious lies” Megan told her in the interview.
The half-sister also claims that Meghan “made and published false and malicious statements” about her in the 2020 book, Quest for Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Formation of a Modern Royal Family.
The half-sister believes that Megan lied about being an only child, and the last time they saw each other. Furthermore, Samantha claims that the allegations subjected her to “humiliation and hatred.”
Samantha sought compensation of NOK 750,000 and demanded a trial.
Now, however, a Florida judge has dismissed the lawsuit, writes The independent.
The judge believed Markle’s statements were expressions of opinion.
“As a rational listener would understand, the accused party had only expressed opinions about his childhood and his relationship with his half-siblings,” Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell wrote in the ruling.
