The price of electricity broke a new historical record and reached nearly 190 euros

The average price of electricity in the Iberian wholesale market is now the highest ever, at €188.18 per megawatt-hour (MWh).

Yesterday’s value was 172.78 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh), which means that Thursday’s price again breaks all records, according to data from OMIE, the electricity market operator for the management of the daily and intraday electricity market in the Iberian Peninsula.

Electricity increases again for families in a regulated market from October

The price of electricity will also rise again for households in the regulated market, from October 1, as the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE) decided a rise of €1.05 per month for most consumers.

ERSE explained that “the energy tariff reflects the cost of purchasing energy from the Last Resort Trader (CUR) in the wholesale markets, being one of the components that integrate the final price paid by consumers in the regulated market.”

The entity also said that as Mibel’s wholesale prices continued to rise, “the updated estimate for 2021 indicates a CUR acquisition cost of €73.24/MWh. [megawatt/hora], which corresponds to a deviation of €21.21 / MWh, which is 41% more than the value reflected in the current tariffs.
