The referee cheats at the right time, terminates the game early and calls back players

Sunday’s match of the 32nd round of the Spanish League, which Sevilla won (2-1) at home, marked an extraordinary moment with the referee as champion.

The confrontation between Seville and Granada was exciting until the end, and afterwards, due to a mistake by Ricardo de Burgos, the referee of the match.

As Sevilla were winning 2-0, with goals from Ivan Rakitic and Lucas Ocampos, Roberto Soldado reduced the penalty kick to 90 minutes and the referee decided to award four minutes of compensation.

However, after three minutes had passed, Ricardo de Burgos gave Pengutex the match as it ended, a decision that surprised the athletes and led Granada to protest, insisting that there was still at least one more minute to play. The referee kept the decision – the players started bidding farewell and changing their shirts – but ended up changing his mind when the athletes were already in the dressing rooms.

Ricardo forced the two teams to return to the field to play the remaining minute. Some of the players are back shirtless and Acuña, a former Sporting player, is seen seated, wearing his socks and shoes, again. The minute played had no effect on the score, which remained unchanged.

“The referee said he had stopped the watch before, and he had never seen it before, something new is learned every day,” Ocampos said at the end of the match.
