The Science Committee will discuss the use of blockchain in Brazil by CriptoFácil

CriptoFácil – The House Science, Technology and Innovation Committee is preparing to hold a public hearing next Wednesday (20). The focus of the meeting will be on an in-depth discussion on the application of blockchain technology in public administration.

Rep. Caio Viana (PSD-RJ) is the author of the motion that led to this hearing. According to him, the adoption of blockchain technology in the public sector has the potential to revolutionize the way the government handles its operations.

According to him, by increasing transparency, this technology allows for more effective visibility and review of government activities, enhancing the integrity of public institutions and helping prevent fraud and corruption.

Furthermore, it highlights that blockchain implementation can bring significant gains in the efficiency of public services, reducing bureaucracy and simplifying interoperability processes between different government agencies and entities.

“Technology can automate tasks, eliminate unnecessary intermediaries and reduce operating costs,” he added.

Public administration in Brazil has been using blockchain technology for a long time. In the federal sphere, blockchain technology is used in the Ministry of Health to register vaccines provided by SUS, and has been implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The IRS also uses blockchain technology in several products, such as bCadastros, which collects various information from individuals and legal entities. Technology has also been used to issue a state ID card.

Brazilian CBDC, Drex, is also using blockchain technology during its tests. Although it is not guaranteed that the system will be available to residents using DLT technology, the central bank is currently using Hyperledger Besu, compatible with EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine), to issue the currency.
