To reach the climate goals agreed upon by governments around the world, more engineers are needed in the green economy. Engineers are key in designing everything needed for a more sustainable planet, leading to ever-higher-paying jobs.

Salaries have also proven to be indicative of the current level of demand for other jobs in the engineering sector, with system design engineers, fabricators/welders and aerodynamics seeing salary increases.

“Careers in the engineering field are some of the most sought-after jobs in 2023,” emphasized Chief Hayes. “Everything we touch, the home we live in, the office we work in, the transportation we use and the energy we consume, is designed, developed and built by an engineer.”

Environmental, social and governance issues are an increasingly important priority for organizations around the world. Investors and customers are more aware than ever of their importance, and a survey conducted by Hays on LinkedIn in 2022 revealed that employees are just as excited.

Alistair Cox said that “given his importance, demand for talent is already outstripping supply, with roles such as sustainability manager gaining popularity”.
