Nicola Mectic and Matt Pavic have a great season. They have won seven titles, are leaders in the rankings and have already been confirmed for the ATP Finals. However, they did not perform well in Grand Slam matches. They were eliminated in the semifinals of the Australian Open, and did not appear at Roland Gros due to the positive results of the corona virus test. However, on Saturday, they crowned the last six months by winning Wimbledon.

The Croatians were eliminated on the way to the final. Łukasz Kubota and Marcelo Melo on Saturday presented what they have been attracted to since the beginning of this year – powerful services, excellent returns, amazing skills and reflexes on the web. Thanks to these qualities, they defeated Spain 6: 4, 7: 6 (5), 2: 6, 7: 5 and Argentina ‘Horacio Ceballos.

In the first set, the turning point of the Zeballos service, which the Croatians won in the seventh game, became decisive. In the second game, both pairs performed well on their own passes, and there was a tie-break in which the fight continued point-to-point, with he making a double service error 6-5 for Mectic and Pavic Gronollers.

The Granollers and Cephalos did not put their hands down after losing two sets, and the third started miraculously – they broke their rivals twice. Thus, they took a 4-0 lead, but they did not lose this advantage.

In turn, in the fourth installment, Mectic and Pavic took the initiative. They had chances, including competition in the 10th game, but could not use them. When it appeared that a tie-break was needed again, the Croatians hit the ball in the second match. Then they led to an amazing exchange, which ended with a strong smash by 28-year-old Pavik.

After the last ball of the game, Mectic and Pavic fell on the court and had tears in their eyes. They made their big dream come true – they won Wimbledon and became the first Croatian pair in history to win the championship.

For Mectic, this is the first Grand Slam championship in the doubles category. For the sinner – third (in 2018 he won the Australian Open with Oliver Marach and in 2020 he won the US Open with Bruno Soares).

In turn, the Granollers and Cephalos lost for the second time in the Grand Slam final (at the US Open 2019 they lost to Juan Sebastian Cable / Robert Farrow). They both still have to wait for the Premier Grand Slam Cup in the doubles category. This is the fourth final they have lost to the Spaniards.
