Seara da Ciência, Guidance Coordination of the Federal University of Ceará held last Saturday (20) the fourth Cearense Missile Flight (JCF), in partnership with the 14th Group of Scouts of the Air Brigade Eduardo Gomez (14 GEABEG), headquartered at Fortaleza Air Base (BAFZ), where the activity took place. The science and technology publishing event is aimed at primary and secondary school students, with a focus on astronautics.

The purpose of this activity is for elementary school students (grades 6-9) and high schools (grades 1-3) to build PET rockets that achieve the greatest possible range while firing projectiles. The teams are divided into two methods, according to the degree of knowledge of the participants: in the first method, children and youth from the second primary school launch rockets based on pressure and water, and in the second method, rockets from the secondary school. In all, 117 teams, consisting of three students and one teacher, participated from public and private schools in the 18 municipalities of Ceará. The winners will compete in the Brazilian Rocket Show (MOBFOG). a. Because it is not true that people do not like science, sometimes people do not know science.”

“It’s amazing to be here, though It takes five hours to get here from my hometown, but it’s very rewarding,” says Evelyn Rodriguez, a full-time high school student in the municipality of Iracema, 280. kilometers from Fortaleza. For her, one of the most important points of the event is the interaction between the participants: “It’s a whole experience of meeting new people. In addition to the releases, the event featured talks, exhibitions, and a presentation by the UFC’s Camerata de Cordas. The activity was supported by the Brazilian Space Agency, the Fortaleza Air Force Base, the Rubens de Azevedo Planetarium, and the Centro Dragão do Mar de Arte e Cultura, among other institutions.
