Vasco defender Leandro Castan criticized the position of Portuguese coach Ricardo Sa Pinto in the Brazilian national team in 2020.
In 15 matches as Vasco’s coach, coach Ricardo Sa Bento has achieved three wins, six draws and six defeats. The team left in the relegation zone of the Brazilian championship, in December 2020. At the end of the season, the club was relegated.
In an interview with Globoesporte, defender Leandro Castán cited the coach’s lack of knowledge of Brazilian football as one of the reasons Vasco failed last year.
He didn’t know our group, and I told him that [Sá Pinto]. I didn’t know Brazilian football. I speak softly, because of that in his face. ‘Teacher [mister]”He shouldn’t be blamed, because he doesn’t know our group,” said the player.
“The main mistake of S Pinto is what I told him. I told him that our team cannot play because it did not give confidence to the boys.” We’re looking at the bench, and you’re always screaming, desperate. The team was kicking forward and was not able to play. I said, “If you, 34, are not able to play, imagine the children,” he remembers.
Sá Pinto was set on October 14, 2020, and landed in Rio de Janeiro the following day. He remained in the team only until December of the same year.
