While filming surfing in New Smyrna Beach in Florida, US, a photographer captured the exact moment when a 16-year-old surfer was attacked by a shark. In the images, it is possible to see the shark descending on the wave and later attacking Doyle Nielsen. Watch:

Despite the panic of September 9, Doyle was able to return to his board and swim into the sand, where he was treated by a rescue team. In an interview with ABC News, the boy said he thought he had been hit by another surfer, but his fellow sportsmen told him to get out of the water.

“It was as if someone on a surfboard came at full speed towards me and hit me really hard,” he said. The young man also stated that the result of the attack was only the nine points he got and that now he is ready to surf again: “I was lucky, I only got nine.”

New Smyrna Beach is notorious for shark attacks, but Doyle says he doesn’t blame the shark for the incident. He concluded by saying, “We are in their lands.”
