Investor Warren Buffett, with millions of dollars, revealed, on Wednesday, that he has resigned from a management position at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where he invested half of his fortune in the last 15 years, Reuters revealed.
In a statement accessible for publication, Oracle of Omaha acknowledged that it had been a “passive custodian” since the foundation’s inception but had always supported President Mark Susman and that the goals of both sides were “100% in sync” from the start of time.
Buffett, one of Bill Gates’ best friends, did not reveal the reason for his resignation, but admitted in the statement that he is leaving all areas in which he worked outside of Berkshire Hathaway. The 90-year-old’s departure comes weeks after the Gates announced their divorce.
The investor also announced a donation of $4.1 billion in Berkshire stock to the Gates Foundation and four charities. This is part of her pledge to donate 99% of her net worth to foundations that want to change the world.
Since 2006, Buffett has donated more than $41.5 billion in Berkshire stock, with more than $32.7 billion to the Gates Foundation. With prices updated due to inflation, Oracle’s donations have already reached $100 billion. “Over many decades, I have amassed an almost incomprehensible amount [de dinheiro]Buffett said in a statement. “Society is a benefit to my money, I don’t,” the investor continued.
Bill Gates thanked the “enduring friendship” he nurtured with Buffett, saying “we will always have a deep sense of responsibility” for the investor, while Melinda French Gates noted that Oracle’s teachings helped them “pave the way” for the front.
In addition to the Gates Foundation, donations also go to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, which was created in honor of his late wife, foundations run by his children, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, the Sherwood Foundation, and the Nouveau Foundation.
According to Reuters calculations, if the Oracle of Omaha had not made donations to charities, her fortune would be approximately equal to that of the Amazon founder, who is currently the richest person in the world.
