The Ministry of Health is extending the polio vaccination campaign until the next day, October 27. Until then, children from one to less than five years of age must be taken to one of the thirteen vaccination rooms in the municipality to ensure that vaccination coverage is expanded to the entire target audience. The coverage rate of the polio campaign in Petropolis is 32.63%.

The measure follows guidance from the state health department due to reduced adherence across the state of Rio de Janeiro to the national polio vaccination campaign, which ended on the 30th.

According to the Minister of Health, Marcos Corvelo, the municipality’s interest is to avoid a re-emergence of the disease, which has been considered endemic in the country since 1994, when Brazil obtained eradication certification. In addition to causing polio, polio can be fatal, so the municipality will continue to apply intensive doses until the end of the month. City Hall is doing its part, but it is essential that parents and guardians are aware and take their children to health centers.”
