A 42-year-old woman died of malaria after spending 18 days in hospital in Annapolis, a municipality in Goiás, 155 kilometers from Brasilia. During his time in the hospital, the victim received treatment with dialysis and blood donation. The death occurred on Monday (24) and was confirmed by the Ministry of Health of Goiás on Thursday (27).

In a memorandum, the file stated that the woman had not traveled out of state and that the only place she would have gone was a farm in Aparecida de Goiânia (a city 75 km from Annapolis and neighboring Goiânia), where a case of malaria had already been reported. Check in February. The Minister of Health also reported that an alert was issued on the last day 17.

In the Federal District, 15 cases of the disease have already been confirmed this year and another 28 in 2022. According to Deputy Director of Epidemiological Surveillance at the DF Health Secretariat, Priscilleyne Reis, most cases of transmission occur in the Amazon region.

“We don’t have transmission in the Federal District, however, we frequently receive travelers, and those people end up showing symptoms,” says Breslin.

On Tuesday (25), the Ministry of Health launched World Malaria Day, to spread awareness about ways to prevent and treat the disease. According to the volume, in 2022, 8.1% fewer cases were recorded than in 2021.
