Youth League: Sporting wins over PSV Eindhoven and rises to the table

Sporting won, on Tuesday afternoon, in its visit to Eindhoven, the Netherlands. At the PSV Eindhoven training center, Joao Teixeira's men successfully countered the dominance of the home team and achieved their first victory in the “renewed” youth league (0-2).

Considering the eleven presented in the reception of Lille (2-2), the young Lions captain replaced Salvador Bluba, Miguel Alves, Dinilson Santos and Ivanildo Mendes, with Daniel Costa, Lucas Domínguez, Momade and Henrique Ariol.

It is important to remember that in the first round, Sporting sweated and struggled to save a point. Therefore, in anticipation of the visit to Eindhoven, Thiago Teixeira appealed to his youth to remain calm, to avoid an afternoon of anxiety.

In the first part, this task proved complex.

On a cold afternoon in the Netherlands, with temperatures reaching 13 degrees Celsius, the champions also found it difficult to warm up.

Therefore, the first goal opportunity came only in the 23rd minute for Eindhoven. From left to centre, winger Thomas exploited the space between the defenders to confront Miguel Gouveia. However, the Portuguese goalkeeper applied a super disgrace, keeping the result null and void.

At the top, Eindhoven strengthened its positions in the attacking midfield, but without danger. At the other end, Joao Simões scored the goal after a wrong attempt by Smolinars. But the home team's goalkeeper stretched out and blocked the shot with his foot, while it was still outside the penalty area.

After the half-time whistle, Afonso Moreira unleashed the party on the hosts Leonin. In the central lane, the winger knocked the ball over the defenders, rolled towards goal and made his debut in the tournament.

In the second half, Sporting succeeded in neutralizing the Dutch team's response quickly. At 51 metres, Eduardo Felissimo took advantage of a cross to the left and scored his second Youth League goal, again with a header.

Until the end, between the exchanges and the yellow cards, PSV Eindhoven no longer threatened Miguel Gouveia. In turn, Sporting has accumulated opportunities to expand the advantage.

Thus, the Lions jump from 17th place to fourth place with four points. Now, Thiago Teixeira's team will wait for the outcome of the round.

In the next round, on the afternoon of October 22 (3pm), Sporting will visit Austrian side Sturm Graz (7).

In turn, considering the defeats against Juventus and Sporting, PSV Eindhoven ranks 31st with no points.

Of the 36 participants in the League Stage, only 22 clubs will join the Clubs in the Champions Stage.

It must be remembered that Braga is part of this group, unlike Sporting and Benfica.
