The reason is said to be that two of the members are linked to an alleged Russian assassination plan.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) recently revealed what it claimed was a Russian plot to assassinate Zelensky and several other Ukrainian leaders.
Two members of the Life Guard Force were arrested, accused of being linked to the Russian intelligence service FSB and playing central roles in the assassination plan.
According to the Ukrainian Security Service, the two were recruiting someone to kidnap and kill the Ukrainian president.
A gift for Putin
According to the Ukrainian Security Service, Zelensky's assassination was supposed to be a “gift” to Vladimir Putin on the occasion of his return to office on Tuesday for a new six-year term as Russia's president.
– The Ukrainian Security Service foiled the FSB's plan to eliminate the President of Ukraine and other representatives of the top military and political leadership, according to a statement issued by the Security Service.
Assassination accusations
On Thursday, Zelensky fired the head of the bodyguard service, Serhiy Rud, and a successor has not yet been appointed.
This is not the first time that Ukraine has accused Russia of being behind the plans to assassinate Zelensky. As of 2022, the Ukrainian president claimed that ten such plans had been uncovered.
Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, did not comment on Wednesday on information related to the latest alleged assassination plot against Zelensky.
