Hey Japan's digital ministry announced on Wednesday, July 3, that it has finally phased out the use of floppy disks in official computers — effectively eliminating regulations requiring the use of these storage devices that were in place in the 1990s.
“We won the floppy disk war on June 28th.”Minister Taro Kono welcomed the move in a statement sent to Reuters news agency. Recall that Kono's ministry began the transition in 2022, and that at that time, nearly 2,000 government operations required the use of floppy disks.
As Digital Trends points out, despite being a country focused on technology and innovation, Japan is also known for its use of old technology — like fax machines and CDs.
