A BOLA – Sporting win CD Póvoa and retain leadership (Basketball)

Sporting received and beat CD Póvoa without difficulty, with a score of 113-70, in a match of the 15th round of the Betclic League, which was held on Saturday afternoon, at Pavilhão João Rocha, in Lisbon.

The Lions played a high-level match, and the partial achieved in the first period (33-12) ended up overshadowing Povera’s advantage in the next (28-24).

With a 16-point lead in the first half (56-40), Lewis Magalhaes’ men pressed the accelerator even more in the second half, focusing in particular on the highly lopsided partial (34-9) that ended the third.

Tanner Umledge (32 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists) was the man of the match, with 83 percent of two-point shots and 70 percent on threes.

With this victory, the Lions maintain the lead in the championship with 26 points in 14 matches, while the Poferos are in eighth place with 19 points.

In the next round, Sporting will receive Benfica, in a duel scheduled at 3 pm on the 15th (Saturday). Before that, there is another derby between the Eagles and the Lions, referring to the second round of Group K of the European Basketball Cup, which will take place on Tuesday, 9 pm, in Pavelhao Vedelidad, in Luz.

CD Póvoa will once again have a tough test in the next round, with a trip to the Dragão Arena, where they will face FC Porto, on Friday, at 8.30pm.
