Auction house Dominic Winter Auctions had a very special auction piece under the hammer on Wednesday.

Shortly after 1pm, he was ready to auction an 800-gram piece of plastic-wrapped cake. The play is from Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ wedding cake from the wedding on July 29, 1981.

After a fierce bidding war, the price of a piece of cake came to £1,850, which is about 22,800 kroner.

It was expected in advance that the price of the piece would be 300-500 pounds.

The cake piece is covered in marzipan and decorated with the Windsor family crest in gold, silver, red and blue, NTB previously wrote.

It appears to be in the same good condition it was in when it was first sold, but we advise against eating it, the auction house writes in its description of the lot.

Depending on the size, it is assumed that the piece is taken from the side of the cake or from a single layer. In total, there were 23 official cakes at the wedding.

Princess Diana and Prince Charles married on July 29, 1981. They separated in 1996, before Diana was killed in a car accident in Paris a year later.

It was Moira Smith, an employee of the Queen Mother’s Clarence House Palace, who got the piece of the cake after the wedding ended in 1981, Dominic Winter Auctions reported on her website.

Smith kept the piece in a cake box where she added a handwritten message on the lid, “Treat with care – Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding cake.” The box was marked simultaneously with the wedding date.

In 2008, the Smith family chose to sell the piece of cake at an auction. It is not known who bought the piece at the time, nor who is the new buyer.

In addition to the cake, the buyer will receive two different programs related to the wedding, as well as a breakfast menu and a seating program from Buckingham Palace. All documents must be dated the wedding date.
