Patricia Kupta of Pennsylvania was reported missing by her husband in 1992. After several years of searching, the police declared her dead in 1999.

Now the matter has taken a new turn.

Local police had no leads until they received a tip from an Interpol agent and a nurse at a nursing home in Puerto Rico.

This was reported by many international media and local newspaper Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

At a press conference on Thursday, local police and Copta’s family announced the shocking news: Patricia had been found after a full 31 years.

– We are so grateful that Patty is alive, says Sister Gloria Smith.

– You won’t believe what we went through. Her husband, Robert Kupta, who never remarried, says it’s a relief that she’s alive.

There was no sign of Patricia for many years, except for a letter she sent to her husband, Robert. There she explained that someone had been following her, something she had claimed many times before.

Desperate to find the woman, the detectives spoke to a psychic who said that Patricia had died and her body had been mendacity near the water.

In the end, Patricia is declared dead.

In June 1999, an unknown person was admitted to a nursing home on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, which belongs to the United States.

Aside from claiming that she came to the island on a cruise ship from Europe, she is said to have been very discreet about details about her private life.

Brian Kohlhepp, Pennsylvania’s deputy chief of local police, says he was contacted a year ago by an Interpol agent and caregiver who believed the woman on the island could be Patricia Kupta.

– She was known to roam around Naranjito, Corozal, and Toa Alta. When she got older, she told details that made it possible to understand her identity, says the police chief.

After a nine-month DNA process, the police were finally able to confirm that the woman was Patricia Copta.

Shock, I couldn’t believe it. It was hard for all of us, because my mom, her sister, and I worry about her all the time, says Patricia’s sister, Gloria Smith.

Beware of the end of the earth

According to The Guardian, Copta was a Catholic who could often be seen at Sunday services before she disappeared in 1992.

Slowly but surely, she started acting strange. According to her husband, her religious beliefs developed into irrational threats.

Among other things, she claimed that the Mother of God appeared to her and warned of an upcoming Armageddon. She was nicknamed “The Sparrow” as a result of her slight build and eccentric gait.

Patricia also lost her job, according to her husband.

Then she started hanging around town telling people they had to go home because the world was going to end in three days, says the husband.

Whether Copta ever returned to the US and Pennsylvania is somewhat uncertain.

Her mental and physical health would suffer, and she said she’d prefer to stay in Puerto Rico, according to the Post-Gazette.
