a biography Moments in the life of a historical figure, can be a moment of truth in action. He remembers Malcolm Xby Spike Lee (1992), made after jungle fever / jungle fever, or Hoffaby Danny DeVito (1992), right after the messy fun that was War of the Roses (1989), or even Lincoln, by Spielberg (2012). But there was another, unprogrammed, reality in it that broke: moments of earnestness, academicism, perhaps narcissism, letting the best filmmakers escape—Danny DeVito’s film is all the more interesting because it applied doses of violence and pathos to a well-acted generic genre, but finished halfway, short of completely destroying it.
