ES research shows that Conelon coffee is an ally against Alzheimer’s disease

In addition to its importance to the economy, coffee offers many health benefits. Research conducted by the University of Vila Velha (UVV), in Espiritu Santo, revealed that Conilon Capixaba coffee can improve the quality of life and cognitive functions of patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease due to the properties found in the fruit itself.

The research revealed that connellone coffee produced in the soil of Espirito Santo contains higher levels of caffeine and active ingredients called “chlorogenic acids,” an original substance in coffee that is beneficial to health and reduces cholesterol, for example.

In the case of the specialized substance connellone, the amount of this substance is approximately twice the amount found in Arabica coffee.

The discovery was published in one of the world’s most respected scientific journals and was also presented at an international conference held in Spain in November.

This was the first study in the world to prove that Connellon coffee can improve the quality of life of patients, reduce the level of cellular oxidation as well as improve cognitive and motor functions on a daily basis.

The study was conducted for 90 days. During this period, patients consumed at least two 200 ml cups of Connellon coffee daily. Cognitive assessment, biochemical examinations, and analysis of oxidative stress markers were performed on patients before the start of the study and after 90 days.

Coffee consumption did not significantly change any blood parameters, confirming the safety of coffee treatment during the 90 days.

The ‘Conquista’ Conilon coffee was grown, processed and donated by the Capixaba Institute for Research, Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (INCAPR) for the research.
