The fourth generation of the Grand Crossover is a technological revolution thanks to e-POWER technology, in which the gasoline engine powers the electric motor. Prices start from 49 thousand euros
With nearly seven million units sold since 2001, and three million units sold as of 2015, the Nissan X-Trail will take on new life starting next month with the arrival of the fourth generation. The seven-seat family crossover, which looks like a more mature Qashqai, has led to a technological revolution that begins with driver assistance and is expressed primarily in the engines, all electrified and with a maximum point in both versions with e-POWER technology, the Nissan system in which it works A gasoline engine runs electricity, eliminating the need for charging.
The new e-POWER system in the X-Trail includes a high-powered battery and an integrated starter motor with a variable compression ratio petrol engine, which serves only as the power generator, inverter and 150 kW front electric motor. Operation is true electric operation, with linear, instantaneous throttle response and silence in almost all situations.
The X-Trail was shown for the first time at the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Show, which is being held in Alfândega do Porto, and is part of a commitment from Nissan, which next year will offer electric offers on all models and in 2030 it will sell electric cars only. Although its muscular appearance seems to suggest off-road adventures, only one of the three versions has four-wheel drive and bet on comfort, even driving, and the smoothness of an electric vehicle link with the ease of an electronic pedal step that allows you to accelerate and brake using just the accelerator pedal. .
Information projected by the Head-Up Display, the wifi system, ProPilot technology that keeps the crossroads in its lane, acceleration, brakes, the 360-degree view camera and adaptive headlights are some examples. The X-Trail offers, though its powerhouse is the motors.
The crossover begins with the version of the 1.5 VCR turbo, a 163-horsepower mild hybrid engine, which accelerates up to 200 km / h and consumes between 7.1 and 7.4 liters depending on the versions. Prices start at 49 thousand euros.
X-Trail with e-POWER and two-wheel drive costs from 51,250 euros, generates 150 kW (204 hp), maximum torque of 330 Nm, consumes 5.9 l / 100 km and accelerates to 170 km / h. .
At the top, with prices starting at €52,050, the e-POWER e-4ORCE has all-wheel drive, 157 kW (213 hp), consumption of 6.5 liters and a top speed of 180 km / h, with acceleration 0 -100 km / h in 7.0 or 7.2 seconds, depending on whether it’s five-seat or seven-seat. This version will only appear with three rows of seats, the last of which is designed for children (passengers up to 1.60 metres), although there are some surprises in terms of space. The second row of seats can slide up to 22 cm, and the luggage compartment, which is 575 liters, continues to accommodate more than 400 even with seven passengers.
Being electric, the X-Trail, which was previously sold – and has a launch offer that leaves it at €550 a month – is a Class 1 on the Via Verde.
