Fuel will go up again (strongly) next week

The week begins with a new price hike. The most expensive increase in deposit is between 4 and 9 euros

The roller coaster continues. The price of diesel and gasoline will rise again next week, after falling on Monday for the first time in a year, 15 and 12 cents respectively, according to data from the Directorate General of Energy and Geology (DGEG). A source from one of the major national oil companies told Multinews: “The development of quotations in euros indicates an increase in gasoline prices by 8.5 cents per liter of petrol and 17 cents per liter of diesel.”

Prices of gas stations adjacent to the hypermarket follow the trend of the market. “The trend this week will be for an increase of 0.0838 euros in gasoline and a decrease of 0.1668 euros in diesel,” another source said.

Higher prices contribute to higher oil prices in international markets. A barrel of Brent crude, a reference to Europe, was quoted below $100 last week, but it is already worth more than $118 a barrel this week, up more than 10%.

Rising diesel and gasoline prices suggest the government will cut the ISP again – in this case by about 2.6 and 1.4 cents a liter, respectively. This is the result of the transitional formula that the government put in place two weeks ago to mitigate price hikes: When fuel goes up, the ISP goes down and when it goes down, the tax goes up.

Filling a car tank costs 20 euros more than in January

Since the start of the year, fuel prices have risen 11 times and fallen only once, according to DGEG. During this period, the price of diesel increased by 34 cents a liter, while gasoline prices increased by 25 cents. This means that filling a 60-liter tank with diesel costs 20 euros more than it did twelve weeks ago. To fill the gas tank, it costs 15 euros more than in the first week of January.

Next week, and already taking into account the decrease in the Internet service provider, confirmed by João Leão at a press conference, the bill will rise by another 4 and 9 euros, respectively.

DGEG data shows that the average price of a simple diesel liter in Portugal currently costs 1,840 euros per liter, while the price of a simple 95 petrol is 1,919 euros. The latest fuel bulletin from the European Commission indicates that Portugal has the seventh most expensive gasoline 95 out of 27 EU countries, 10 cents above the European average and 22 cents more expensive than Spain. Diesel occupies ninth place in the European ranking.
