Tourist trampled by elephant to death

A man from Saudi Arabia has died after being run over by an elephant in a popular tourist park in Uganda, writes Watchman.

The attack occurred on Tuesday in Murchison Falls National Park when the man left the car he was driving with his friends. Ugandan Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife spokesperson Bashir Hanji said in a statement.

– They stopped along the road and the deceased got off the car, then an elephant attacked him and killed him on the spot, said Hanji.

Park staff told the newspaper that police would investigate the man’s death and review security protocols “to avoid a recurrence of such incidents”.

threatened

African elephants are an endangered species. The situation has worsened in most of Africa, the World Wildlife Union (IUCN) warned in March last year, according to the NTB.

In the past, the elephant on the African continent was seen as a single animal species and was considered endangered but not endangered.

The IUCN List now divides the elephant into two subspecies – the African forest elephant and the African savannah elephant.

The forest elephant is particularly affected. The number has been reduced by more than 86 percent in the past three decades. The forest elephant is now considered critically endangered, one step closer to extinction.

The savanna elephant population has declined by at least 60 percent in the past 50 years and is now under threat.
