Early diagnosis is crucial for effective cancer treatment. This is why we must be attentive to any change in our body, even if it seems insignificant.
In Brazil, ovarian cancer affects more than six thousand women annually, according to the National Cancer Institute (Inca). Unfortunately, according to Febrasgo (Brazilian Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics), seven out of ten patients die from the disease in the country.
Dr. Stephanie Oy, in an interview with The Daily Express, highlighted one of the first symptoms of ovarian cancer: dyspareunia, which is pain during sexual intercourse.
“Pain in the back, stomach or during sex may indicate early ovarian cancer. Some women may also experience swelling beyond the normal range,” explains the specialist from the UK’s MyHealthcare clinic. In addition, ovarian cancer has a number of early symptoms, including bloating and a feeling of fullness, as if you had eaten a large meal.
Other signs to watch out for are poor appetite, difficulty finishing meals, and sudden and unexplained weight loss.
Risk factors associated with the disease include family history, maternal absence, endometriosis, talc use, and being overweight.
