Last year, Ukraine won the Eurovision Song Contest under the theme “Stefania”, which was performed by the Kalush Orchestra. After winning the competition, Ukraine should be the host country for this edition, as it did in 2005 and 2017.

However, in June, the organization announced that this country would not host the competition in 2023, due to the invasion of Russia.

Ukraine, as the winning country, will automatically qualify for the Grand Final in 2023, joining the so-called “Big Five”: France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Last year, Portugal reached ninth place in Eurovision, a position it has already secured in two other competitions.
